Looking over my shoulder now to everything that we did, I'm happy, I'm Proud about our work, what we have accomplished during this peoject. Could it be better? Of course, I'm sure... We found out that genetics is much deeper than we thoght in the beginning of the project, more things about the self identity could be done, things making they see more about other people, see and talk to more people from another countries and different cultures, in this way they could realize how connected the world is, not just by either Genes or Cultures, but both.
Maybe waste less time talking about the introductory issues, but We still think that was good talk about others countries and especially Brazil. I remember the student J.C. and how amazed he was when he saw the Brazilian Afro descedant he said: "This is my people!", even without know them, but recognizing that people as from the same crib that he supposedelly came. How they matched the process of formation of American's population with Brazilian's one.
A great experience was talk to the SME(Subject Matter Expert), in this case, Mr. Scott the taecher. Since he knows more about the kids we could ask him about what they like or dislike, how we could trust in him about our learning contract, having critiques and helping him in the daily activities. If some one else is going to do this project and it is not Biology teacher, here goes my advise: "Talk to the teacher before, during and after the project", talk to him and planing collaborativelly is verry important to the project successs.
If I would do this project again, I would've not done the trait tree activity and go straight to the point with the serious stuff instead. Developing more activities where they could've shown their thoughts, their opinions; a video like a talk show would be a good idea.
