Introduction

  Work with Biology can be, a lot of times, boring. We consider in this project work with biology is not boring since you make that knowledge sounds important to the students lives, help they understand how related their lives are with Biology. We were talking about Genetics and how it changes our lives. Together,We and Mr. Scott, we worked with 7th Grade students of Clarke Middle School. The center of our discusisons was the following definition:

Phenotype = Genotype + Environment,

it means, who we are (phenotype, traits) is the ineraction between our biological inheritance and the environment in which we live(Culture). What is more important to you though? What do you think that makes you who you are?

  These last questions guided us in our entire project with the kids, giving to them activities and material in varied medias to help them think by themselves, figure out the answer. We tried to extract from the students all their thoughts, filling and ideas about biological and social aspects to gather all these informations and develop discussions, in which they needed to figure out answers and questions, what made them THINK a lot about their point of views, so they could CHANGE perspective using Genetics as a basis knowledge. The figure bellow represents our steps in this project:

  In Brazil, Laecio and Deborah addapted and developed the same activities with their five students.
